History and Legend 2

In the last century, Cantiano Black Cherries were highly prized also by the Italian royal family. An original document from 1928 states that King Vittorio Emanuele II used to order Cantiano Black cherries from an acknowledged local producer.

Earlier than 1925, other historical documentation also proves that Cantiano Black Cherries received many awards and honors, such as the Gold Medal at the International Exposition in Paris and the Cross of Merit at the International Exposition in Milan.

History and Legend 3

The Black Cherry Tree comes from Eastern Europe and The Middle East, particularly from Armenia and the Caucasus regions.

It is said that Roman military tribune Lucius Licinius Lucullus imported the tree to Italy. After the Third Mithridatic War in 65 B.C., he picked a plant of Black Cherry and planted it in the gardens of his villa in Rome. The spread in our countryside was a fortunate consequence.
